Pet emergency: three things before you leave

  1. Call the clinic first: check a vet is on duty and ask roughly what it costs.
  2. Bring any medicine your pet takes and its past records.
  3. Use a carrier or lead, so a hurt, frightened pet can't bolt.

Common questions常見問題

Which vets in Hong Kong are open 24 hours?

AFCD does not publish which clinics are open round the clock. From clinics' listed names and their own websites we list 2 24-hour vets, plus 3 more that mention emergency care. Night fees are usually higher: call first to check a vet is on duty. See the 24-hour vet list

When does my dog need a licence, and what does it cost?

According to AFCD, a dog can be licensed from 3 months old and must get its first licence by 5 months. A licence lasts 3 years; then the dog is revaccinated against rabies and the licence renewed. At AFCD animal management centres and dog inoculation centres the fee is $80 per dog, in cash. (Checked October 2026.) AFCD dog licence FAQ · Centre locations and hours

How do I check that a pet shop is licensed?

Selling animals in Hong Kong needs an AFCD Animal Trader Licence (Cap. 139B). AFCD's Licensed Pet Shops List has 150 shops, but only those that agreed to be listed, so a missing shop is not proof it is unlicensed: ask AFCD. Cap. 139B · Buying a pet

How many dog parks does Hong Kong have, and when are they open?

LCSD's open data lists 60 pet gardens (dog parks), 44 of them open 24 hours a day; most others open roughly 7 am to 11 pm. Hours differ by park: LCSD's notice is final. Pet garden map · DATA.GOV.HK
